The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza opened the department of Dr. Musa and Suhaila Nasir Pediatric Cancer Department at Al Rantisi Children’s Specialized Hospital in Gaza City during February 2019, in cooperation with the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF).
The department provides its services through primary health care outpatient clinics, treatment of patients with the hematologist, such as thalassemia and chemotherapy, and reinforced by qualified medical, nursing and technical highly expertise cadres, and works within the approved treatment protocols.
This section provides medical services for children from birth till 12 years old, and hematologist patients from all governorates of the Gaza Strip. As this department accommodates 31 beds, 15 of which provide primary daily health care and 16 beds are allocated for admission, 8 of which are currently in operation. Attached to the section chemotherapy pharmacy and laboratory, along with a games room.
The staff is not only concerned with the medical aspect for the patients but also with the psychological aspect for the patients and their parents. In addition to providing recreational, social and educational services, and special lessons for children who receive treatment in the department for their inability to go to schools because, since they have weak immunity during the period they are admitted in the hospital.
This department was established to elevate the burden of sick children, so they no longer have to travel and suffer the hassle of traveling abroad.
