A British neurological medical delegation from the Medical Aid for Palestinian Foundation MAP in the UK concludes its mission by performing 8 complex surgeries in cooperation with the medical staff at the European Gaza Hospital (EGH).
The delegation arrived at the Gaza Strip earlier this week, where they screened “34” patients who have been prepared by the local medical staff in the hospital.
Dr. Nidal Abuhadrous, Head of Neurosurgery at EGH, announced that for the first time in Gaza Strip an endoscopic third ventriculostomy was performed at the EGH, which is an operation that requires special surgical skills and equipment. This surgery aims to avoid shunt insertion in children with obstructive hydrocephalus.
MAP coordinator Dr. Wafaa Kanaan added that the delegation comes within the framework of an integrated program between MAP and MOH-Gaza to develop the services presented to help the local medical staff to conduct more complicated surgical operations, and to elevate the burden on the Palestinian citizens and to eliminate as possible the difficulties they face while traveling to get treatment abroad.
