Dr. Duhair: Gaza Strip faces the third Covid wave
The Deputy Director-General of Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Magdy Duhair said that there are three factors that threaten Gaza Strip facing the third Covid wave.
As the increase in the number of confirmed cases, especially those that need clinical follow-up in hospitals, indicates that we may be on the verge of a third wave of this pandemic, Dr. Dhair stated that the first factor that affects the epidemiological situation in Gaza is the lack of sufficient adherence to the safety measures in conjunction with the arrival of new Covid variant.
Dr. Dhair indicated that the second factor is the weak turnout for receiving Covid vaccines, as the percentage of those who got vaccinated until now is 10%, stressing that vaccination is the safest way out of this pandemic, which enhances immunity and reduces the risks of infection, and that vaccines are safe and available in the public health centers.
The third factor that raises the risk of this wave is the severe overcrowding in the streets, coinciding with the approaching new school year, without taking into account any of the social distance and health controls measures that must be taken by every member of the society.
Dr. Dahir renewed his calls to the public to adhere to the health preventive measures such as wearing masks, physical distancing, avoiding crowded places, washing hands, and speeding up receiving Covid vaccinations.
