Mental Health Provides support to the victims of the Israeli attack on Gaza.

The Mental Health and Psychological Support Unit at Shifa Hospital provided its services to the victims of the recent Israeli attack on Gaza, hand in hand with the medical and surgical teams.

Dr. Fathi Makki, director of the Mental Health and Psychological Support Unit at Al-Shifa Hospital, said that the injured were divided according to their age groups: children under six months, children and toddlers, and adults.
Psychological support was provided to each person according to their needs.

Dr. Makki added dealing with the injured and their families go through three stages: assessment, psychological support, and finally intervention.

Among some of the cases that were dealt with is the child Omar Al-Hadidi and his father, who survived a targeting all members of their family.
“Farah Al-Bahiti”, had also specialists worked with her to reinforce and integrate her with the community as relatives and cousins.

Together with the medical and surgical staff, counseling and psychological support were provided, patients were referred for more thorough psychological counseling in government clinics.

The team faced many challenges, especially while the coronavirus pandemic invading Gaza Strip.

Dr. Makki said that the General Department of Mental Health provides psychological support to war-wounded before and after entering for their surgeries, noting that they dealt with (80) wounded in Al-Shifa Hospital, of whom (35) were provided with psychological intervention.
