MoH – Gaza conducts 4 kidney transplants under the supervision of a Jordanian delegation

The local specialized surgical medical teams, in partnership with a Jordanian medical delegation specializing in kidney transplantation, were able to perform 4 kidney transplants, as part of the seventh phase of the second kidney transplant program.

The head of the Jordanian medical delegation, Dr. Walid Masoud said that the Palestinian doctors were able to perform 3 out of 4 operations completely under the supervision of the delegation, noting that our doctors enjoyed high efficiency during the operations.
According to Dr. Masoud, the kidney transplant program achieved one of its main goals not only ending the suffering of kidney patients in the Gaza Strip but also in transferring experience and expertise to local medical cadres, where the kidney transplantation program is primarily an educational program.

On the other hand, the consultant and head of Kidney Transplantation at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Dr. Ghazi Al-Yazji, said that performing these operations by local medical hands reflects our medical teams’ ability possess, pointing out that it heralds a bright future that ends the suffering of about 900 patients with kidney failure in the Gaza strip.

Meanwhile, several patients who have undergone kidney transplants and transplants praised the Palestinian Ministry of Health efforts in attracting medical delegations, especially with the inability of many of the patients to travel abroad, due to the economic difficulties that the Gaza Strip patients suffer, and the continuous closure of the crossings and the prevention of some patients from traveling.

Young Sakher Hassan, one of the patients who underwent a kidney transplant, said that his operation took place after years of suffering from complete kidney failure and that he was unable to travel to operate abroad because the donor was restricted from traveling, praising the efforts of the local medical team and the Jordanian medical delegation.

Another 35-year-old citizen, Huda Al-Matouk, is looking forward, after she went through a kidney transplant, to return to practicing her normal life.

In early 2013, the Ministry of Health started the first kidney transplant operations at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, led by Dr. Abdul Qader Hammad, head of the British delegation coming from Liverpool Hospital in Britain, before adding the second kidney transplant program in 2019 in cooperation with the Jordanian medical delegation led by Dr. Walid Masoud, with the support of the Palestine Children’s Relief Society PCRF, to end the suffering of patients with renal failure in the Gaza Strip.
