Ministry of Health urges international aid groups to meet the Strip’s urgent medical needs to combat COVID-19. The blockaded Gaza Strip still suffering from the siege imposed by the Israeli occupation forces for more than 14 years.
The devastating effect of the siege on the health sector caused a huge shortage of medicines, consumables and medical equipment. “We want international aid organizations to meet urgent medical needs such as respiratory and intensive care devices, medicines and protective equipment as part of combating COVID-19,” said the spokesman for the MoH in Gaza, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qidra.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, warned from a real catastrophe that will affect the Gaza Strip in case of the virus outbreak, calling for immediate action.
On the other hand, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights, Michael Link, warned of the fragility of the health situation in Gaza due to the lack of capabilities and medical consumables available to face the coronavirus outbreak.
It is worth noting that the Gaza Strip is one of the few places in the world, where health cadres face the Coronavirus under the siege. MOH began an early series of precautionary measures aimed at protecting society and individuals.
