MOH-Gaza: Kidney transplantation services development in the Gaza Strip during 2021

The report issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Health (PHIC) said that dialysis and kidney transplant services in the Gaza Strip witnessed a remarkable development during 2021.

Including building facilities and equipping health facilities in the governorates of the Gaza Strip, such as the opening of the Noura Al Kaabi Dialysis Center, funded by the Qatar Reconstruction Committee, with a clinical capacity of 36 beds, in addition to establishing a dialysis center in Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis at a total cost of $842,000.

According to PHIC, 13 kidney transplants were performed in 2021, reaching kidney transplantation patients within the national program from February 2013 to the current date to 110 patients.
The kidney transplantation services program was directed to be institutionalized during 2021, in addition to evaluating the services of dialysis units in hospitals, and a model for service standards was developed.
According to the report, kidney transplant patients who receive health care in MOH hospitals regularly are about 406.

As for the patients who go through dialysis sessions, they are about 1031 patients, while hemodialysis sessions in health facilities reached more than 132,000 sessions.

The Ministry of Health is witnessing several qualitative developments in various fields in terms of the human cadre, the services provided, construction, and medical equipment to end the suffering of renal failure patients once and for all.
