MOH-Gaza launches a national campaign to raise awareness of hypertension

The Ministry of Health in Gaza, in cooperation with a number of civil health institutions, launched a national campaign to raise awareness of hypertension, carrying the slogan “Check and Reassure.”

Several Healthcare institutions participated in the campaign like; UNARWA, Military Medical Services, Palestinian Red Crescent, Medical Relief, the Union of Health Work Committees, and the Nursing Union.

In an interview with the Director-General of Primary Health Care, Dr. Maher Shamiya stressed the importance of regular blood pressure checks as it is associated with other chronic diseases.

The campaign includes educational programs, awareness activities, and distributing explanatory brochures in parallel with checking blood pressure within the community institutions such as mosques, ministries, and municipalities.

Dr. Shamiya pointed out that the focus of this campaign will be on the concept of primary prevention of hypertension through adopting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging community members to follow up periodically to check blood pressure.
