MOH-Gaza launches a “Women and Girls are Safe” campaign to combat gender-based violence
The Ministry of Health celebrates the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign from November 25 to the 10th of December this year.
the global theme to portray this campaign is to end violence against women, and their mental health, under the slogan “Women and girls are safe.” This campaign was launched in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund.
The Assistant Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Medhat Muhaisin, during the opening, stated that the Ministry of Health concern itself with the issue of violence against women, saying that MOH developed a strategy and a clear guide for women who have been subjected to violenceز
Dr. Muhaisen indicated that his ministry bears the first burden, whether in hospitals, mental health centers, and psychiatric hospitals, where cases are often detected in health facilities and transferred to institutions working in the same field.
Dr. Muhaisin stated that MOH is developing a clear strategy to combat gender-based violence, referring that the health education and community education departments will have vital role in raising awareness against domestic violence, with the participation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and in partnership with NGOs.
