MOH-Gaza launches World Mental Health Day activities
Today, the Ministry of Health launched activities to commemorate World Mental Health Day for the year 2022, holding the slogan “Make mental health and well-being for all a global priority” during a press conference organized by the Ministry of Health, with broad participation of health service providers at the Ministry of Health and private and international partner institutions.
The Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Hajj, during his speech that the ceremony announced the launch of an award for the best mental health awareness project in the Gaza Strip.
Dr. Al-Hajj explained that the ministry provides and supports mental health services following the directives of the National Mental Health Committee, in which all service providers participate, to ensure the safety of our people and adequately provide the service in light of the challenges they face such as unemployment, exposure to repeated aggression and siege.
For his part, the Director General of Mental Health, Dr. Jamil Suleiman, said that the activities of World Mental Health Day
shall include several awareness projects and scientific, which going to target large segments of the local community.
Dr.Suleiman indicated that his administration pays great attention to the mental health department, where the general administration of mental health is keen on the training of hundreds of cadres, launching the Palestinian psychiatric pod, developing a set of treatment protocols, a national referral system, preparing treatment protocols, policies and procedures for workers in the psychological field, in addition to providing psychosocial support to the staff during disasters and crises.
Dr.Suleiman announced that the next year shall witness the operation of the National Center for Psychotherapy and Rehabilitation, which will constitute a qualitative addition to providing psychiatric services in Gaza.
