MOH – Gaza: P.K.U. tests materials’ for newborns run out

Director-General of the Technical Support Units at the Ministry of Health (MOH), Dr. Ayman Al-Halabi, warned of the negative consequences on the newborn’s health the P.K.U. tests materials’ ran out.
Dr. Al-Halabi said this examination is performed for children during the first week of birth to determine the rate of amino acids necessary for brain development or cognition, or what is known as (phenylketonuria).
“The delay in diagnosing the newborn examination can cause serious complications to the children’s health and may cause mental retardation”, he added.

Dr. Al-Halabi called on all concerned parties to the necessity of providing examination material to spare them relapses of delayed mental development.
