Funded by the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health has inaugurated Limb Reconstruction Unit LRU and C.T. department at Nasser Medical Complex.
Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Yousef Abu Al-Rish, explained that the project emerged out of an urgent need to provide surgical interventions and to rehabilitate the wounded of the Great March of Return, who were injured since its eruption in March 2018.
Dr. Abu Al-Rish highlighted the epic role of the medical cadres at the bordered trauma stabilization points and the rapid interventions, which saved many of the injured young men limbs from the danger of complete amputation.
As Dr. Abu Al-Rish stressed on the importance of having a computed tomography (C.T) department in the complex, thus completing the department of diagnostic services, and enhancing the integrated service for patients.
Dr. Abu Al-Rish expressed his appreciation to the World Health Organization represented by Dr. Gerald Rockenschaub Director of the Organization in Palestine, and to the staff of the office in Gaza represented by Dr. Abdel Nasser Sobh for their efforts in completing this project.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a UN delegation represented by Jamie McGoldrick, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Mr Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, Head of Delegation, The Office of the European Union Representative (EUREP), who expressed his hopes that the new project will be a gateway to integrate the injured into society and sustain their limbs from amputation.
