According to the Palestinian Health Information Center (PHIC) at the Ministry of Health, approximately (31) thousand cardiac catheterizations performed since the beginning of initiating the department in 2006 at the European Gaza Hospital in the Gaza Strip.
Head of the Cardiac Catheterization Department at Al-Shifa Medical Complex Dr. Mohammed Habib, said that these developments made it possible to save lives. While the mortality rate is reduced by performing operations that usually could not be performed in Gaza hospitals.
Dr. Habib added that the patients who suffer from an acute hemorrhagic stroke or angina, before inaugurating this department, had to wait for several days for surgical intervention abroad, but now it is performed immediately.
Performing these surgeries within Gaza Strip provides a good and useful database that opens the way for studies, and setting discretionary expectations to the needed equipment and supplies annually.
