The lack of medicines for oncology patients in the Gaza Strip constitutes the biggest challenge to provide them with care

Dr Subhi Skaik, Director General of the Gaza Cancer Center GCC, Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, considered the lack of medicines for cancer patients in the Gaza Strip the biggest challenge for them.

Dr Skaik added that nine thousand of cancer patients have a routine visit to the hospital, explaining that the hospital provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients, as it receives no less than (500) patients per day in outpatient clinics, in addition to admitting about (120) patients per day in the department. Inpatients equipped with (182) inpatient beds.

Dr Skaik pointed out that the hospital provides several services, including patient care services, in which patients take their treatment for several hours and then leave for follow-up.

In addition, an integrated radiology department provides several services to patients, including MRI, CT, x-ray services, laboratory department, inpatient department, palliative care department and pain management.

In addition to the presence of a multidisciplinary team to provide palliative care service that helps the patient and his family to deal with the disease.

Dr Skaik called on the benevolent people in the Gaza Strip through the “Mercy and Solidarity” campaign to support cancer patients, assisting them in providing therapeutic drugs and diagnostic devices, training competencies, and helping patients towards recovery like other oncology patients in the world.
