One step at a time… get tested for breast cancer
The Ministry of Health launches Pink October 2023 activities to raise awareness of breast cancer
The Ministry of Health and National Committee for Health Education has officially launched Pink October 2023 to spread awareness about breast cancer prevention. The slogan, “One step at a time… get checked,” emphasizes the importance of taking action toward early detection. It’s time to take charge of your health and get screened.
The Deputy Ministry of Health, Dr. Youssef Abu Al-Rish, held a press conference at the Turkish Friendship Hospital to announce the participation of many local and international health institutions in Pink October activities.
Today is a day to highlight the obstacles faced by patients in Gaza, including lack of medicine and access to treatment outside the Strip.
According to Abu Al-Rish, the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital serves as a crucial foundation for the larger Gaza Cancer Center, where the number of cancer cases among women living in the Gaza Strip is alarming, and it is reported that approximately 400 cases of cancer are diagnosed each year. Furthermore, it is concerning to note that breast cancer accounts for 35% of all cancer diagnoses in women.
Abu Al-Rish has been reaching out to both local and international communities, urging them to provide adequate support for breast- cancer patients, Dr. Abu Al-Rish has also been tirelessly advocating support to assist these women, he also called for putting more pressure on the occupying forces to guarantee patients receive the essential treatment they need. It is essential that we all come together to support these women during their time of need.
Abu Al-Rish extended his gratitude and appreciation to all the parties that took part in the Pink October launch activities this year. He also honoured Al-Isra University and the Bureij Women’s Health Center for winning the best community initiatives for breast cancer awareness.
